Bayfield is situated along Highway 160 in the eastern part of La Plata County.
The town is in southwestern Colorado about 18 miles east of Durango and 50 miles west of Pagosa Springs.
The San Juan mountain range is located to the east and the La Plata mountains loom up out of the west.
Closer to town is the HD mountain range in which many Bayfield residents like to escape for hikes and peaceful outdoor experiences.
Our town is nestled in the Pine River Valley next to the Los Piños River. There is much National Forest and BLM land that surrounds this area and offers many recreational and hunting activities.
